Police found cannabis beside man's bed

A Spalding man has had 10 hours added to his unpaid work order after he admitted possessing cannabis and breaking a suspended prison sentence order.

Magistrates at Boston heard that Wayne Lewis Mitchell (30), of Chestnut Avenue, was found in possession of a small quantity of cannabis when police searched his room in relation to a different matter on February 27.

Philippa Chatterton, mitigating, said Mitchell was a ‘social user of cannabis’ and that only a ‘very small amount’ had been found in a grinder beside his bed.

Court reports (16163547)

She said that Mitchell was subject to a suspended prison sentence on what was a totally different kind of offence and that it would be unjust to invoke the prison sentence.

The magistrates agreed, fining Mitchell £233 and adding 10 hours to the unpaid work order running alongside his suspended prison sentence. He was also ordered to pay £117 in costs and charges.
