Police uncover huge cannabis farm hidden in former Ramsgate shop

The emergency services are still at the scene after making a surprising discovery in an old Ramsgate shop.

Officers were called to what used to be the Blockbusters shop in King Street at around 12pm on Wednesday (July 4).

They were called to a report of a cannabis cultivation located in the building.

Multiple police and fire service vans are still at the empty shop on King Street

Officers searched the unoccupied building and made a huge discovery of between 600 and 1,000 cannabis plants.

A police spokesperson explained: “No arrests have been made.

“Officers currently remain at the scene while work is ongoing to clear the building and enquiries are ongoing.”

Eyewitness reports suggest around 20 police officers were still at the scene at around 8am today (July 5).

Electricians were reported to be at the scene, unhooking the cannabis cultivation equipment.

Multiple police vans, as well as officers from the fire service, were still at King Street at around noon today, and the pavement around the old shop has been cordoned off with police tape.

The fire service were called in to provide lighting at the scene, to assist police.
